“The sore legs fade, but the impact of the money I raised for the British Liver Trust lasts a lot longer”

Saibabu had never run a half marathon in his life until he took part in the Cambridge Half  last month. The British Liver Trust’s support for a loved one during a difficult diagnosis inspired the previously casual runner to ‘give back so other families can have that same lifeline’.

The stunning 21km route which takes in the city’s historic colleges was an experience like no other for Saibabu and the cheering crowds gave him the energy to keep going. He finished in an impressive 3 hours and 5 minutes and raised more than £100 for the Trust.

Saibabu said: “I wanted my miles to mean something and help contribute to the life-saving research, as well as the clarity, comfort and support the British Liver Trust provides. Liver health is so often overlooked, yet it’s such a fundamental part of our overall wellbeing. The British Liver Trust does incredible work in supporting patients, raising awareness for early diagnosis, and campaigning for better liver health across the UK.”

Saibabu was blown away by the generosity of friends, family, and even strangers in sponsoring him and urges others to take on a fundraising challenge for the Trust too.

He said: “Fundraising can feel daunting, but it actually became a great motivator during my cold morning training runs. Every donation reminded me why I was doing this. To anyone thinking about running for charity: just do it. The sore legs fade, but the impact of the money raised lasts a lot longer.”
