Thank you for supporting Love Your Liver Awareness Month

Posted on: 1st February 2022

Love Your Liver Awareness Month, which takes place every January, is our annual campaign dedicated to promoting good liver health and offering practical advice on reducing your risk of liver disease.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise awareness and/or took steps to improve their liver health in January 2022.

Highlights of the month

  • Over 15,000 people in the UK took our Love Your Liver screener to find out if they are at risk of liver disease and many signed up to receive further tips and advice, including downloading our Love Your Liver fact sheets.
  • Hundreds of people took a pledge to improve their liver health by having a break from alcohol, taking on a fitness challenge, cutting down on sugar, sticking to five-a-day or ditching processed foods and takeaways.
  • Dozens of people affected by liver disease shared their story to help raise awareness. Personal stories highlight the experience of people affected by liver disease or liver cancer, which helps people to better understand liver disease as well as providing comfort to those affected.
  • And thank you so much for sharing our #LoveYourLiver messages online. You’ve played a vital part in helping us raise awareness and reach more people at risk of liver disease.

At the British Liver Trust, we raised awareness of the importance of liver health in the national media by supporting the launch of the NHS Better Health campaign and encouraging people to pledge to love their liver in the regional media by highlighting the impact of the pandemic on liver disease outcomes in the UK.

January may be over but we continue to need your support to raise vital awareness of liver health and support people affected by liver disease or liver cancer.   Here are some ways you can support us in 2022.

Fundraising

There are so many ways you can raise money for us this year.

Whether you choose to take on a run, set up a bake sale or take on one of our challenges, you will be raising awareness and vital funds for the British Liver Trust.

The funds you raise not only help us to raise awareness of liver disease but ensure that we can support liver disease and liver cancer patients through our helpline, support groups and information.

Campaign for us

Across the UK, there is widespread variation in the identification, treatment and management of liver disease in primary care, which means that thousands of people are being diagnosed too late for effective intervention and treatment.

To improve early diagnosis of liver disease in primary care, we need to make sure that every GP practice across the UK has an agreed way of finding patients at risk, as well as testing, following up, and managing liver disease.

With our interactive map, you can find out exactly what is happening in your area. Via the map, you can also click a link to email your MP and ask them to support the campaign.  Find out more: Make early diagnosis of liver disease routine - British Liver Trust
