We did it! The British Liver Trust raises £21,132 through the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2019 appeal.

The British Liver Trust is delighted to have raised £21,132 through the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2019 appeal.

From 3 December to 10 December, all donations made to the charity through the Big Give’s website were doubled by our generous match-funders. Our aim for the week was to raise a total of £20,000 after match-funding, and we were humbled to hit our target three days before the end of the campaign.

We couldn’t have done this without the kind donations of our wonderful supporters, and to everyone who bravely shared their personal stories and spread word of the campaign on our behalf. Thanks to each and every one of them, we can make a lifesaving difference for people with liver disease and their families.

A lifeline for people with liver disease

Every penny of the funds raised will go towards funding our vital support services for people with liver disease. That includes funding our helpline, led by specialist liver nurses.

Our nurse-led helpline is the only one in the UK that provides specialist advice and support to liver patients and their families.

Tracey used the helpline when her husband who has cirrhosis of the liver. She says:

“I am sure without this service our journey would not have been so smooth. Just to have a voice understand what you are going through is more than one can put into words.

“We will be eternally grateful for this amazing service.”

Another helpline caller, Roger, says: “Knowing the team at British Liver Trust are at the end of the phone has been a lifeline. Being able to go back to my GP armed with information has meant that I have been taken seriously, and get the treatment I need.

“I’m very grateful for the support and guidance they have given me.”

The funds raised will also go towards raising awareness of liver disease and how to prevent it. More than one in five people in the UK are at risk of developing the disease, but 90% is preventable through lifestyle changes.
