Rick Stein starts charity support with a Big Yellow coffee morning

A Winchester restaurant has kicked off its fundraising campaign for a national charity which has its headquarters in the city by hosting a Big Yellow coffee morning. Rick Stein hosted the event for the British Liver Trust as part of Big Yellow Friday, the charity’s national awareness and fundraising day for childhood liver disease.

Yellow themed fundraisers took place on Friday March 13 at schools and workplaces around the UK to support the thousands of young people and families affected by rare childhood diseases.

“We’re a national charity who are here for everyone affected by all kinds of liver disease and liver cancer both locally and throughout the UK,” said the British Liver Trust’s CEO, Pam Healy. “But it’s particularly nice to get this support on our own doorstep, and the coffee morning was a wonderful opportunity to let the local community know a bit more about what we do.”

The event is just the start of the Winchester restaurant’s support. From April 20 to May 17, £2.50 from every dish purchased from the Rick Stein charity menu will be donated to the Trust.

“This is a wonderful initiative which will not only raise much needed funds but awareness too” added Louise Knight, Director of Fundraising and Partnerships at the British Liver Trust. We hope it’s the first of many similar projects. We know that many businesses like to support a locally based charity and we’re keen to work with local organisations of all sizes.”
