Living with haemochromatosis

It’s difficult to generalise about living with haemochromatosis.  In some people, it has very few effects, if any. But in others, it may lead to more serious medical problems. On this page, we’ve covered some of the areas that haemochromatosis may affect, such as diet and coping with symptoms.

If you’ve recently found out that you have haemochromatosis genes, you may need to give yourself time and space to process all this new information. Do remember that the risk of complications is low if you’ve been diagnosed early and have treatment as often as your doctor recommends. However, many people do have some symptoms, particularly fatigue and joint pain.
