The British Liver Trust is taking part in the UK’s biggest match funding campaign, the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2020.
Now in its 13th year, the Christmas Challenge launches at midday on Tuesday 1st December and runs for just seven days, until midday Tuesday 8th December 2020. Throughout the week, participating charities will see supporters’ donations matched, doubling the impact of their gifts.
The charity is aiming to raise a total of £15,000 during the week, which will be doubled to £30,000.
All funds raised will support the charity's helpline and support services for people affected by any kind of liver condition. The helpline is a lifeline for patients and families, the online community helps 24 hours a day and the support groups empower patients, giving them confidence to manage their illness.
Chief Executive of the British Liver Trust, Pamela Healy OBE, says: “We’re thrilled to be part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2020. This is a fantastic opportunity for our supporters to make their donations go further and for us to reach and support even more people with liver disease.”
This year thousands have come to us for advice and support, during what has been a very tough year.
Phil was diagnosed with liver cancer earlier this year and used the British Liver Trust’s nurse-led helpline. He says: “After my diagnosis I called the helpline to speak to the liver nurses. I like talking to them, it does me good.
“They don’t have to care, but they do. They give me encouragement and strength. It’s unbelievable strength they give me. I know I can call them at any time and talk to them about anything – the journey I am on, the next steps. They are five-star angels.”
If you’d like to help us support more people like Phil, please consider making a donation during the week. Thank you.
