British Liver Trust saddened and appalled by killing of Sir David Amess MP

The British Liver Trust is devastated by the news of the death of Sir David Amess MP, following an attack at his constituency surgery on Friday afternoon.

The Trust worked with Sir David and his staff on the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Liver Health.

Pamela Healy OBE, Chief Executive of the British Liver Trust said;

“We are shocked and saddened by the news of this horrific attack and the death of Sir David Amess today. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family, friends and staff at this difficult time. Sir David made a significant contribution to promoting liver health awareness in Parliament and we are deeply saddened by today’s news. His contribution, alacrity and energy will be greatly missed.”

First elected in 1983, Sir David was Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Liver Health for many years. Sir David was committed to raising awareness of liver disease within Parliament and has supported the Trust’s work by promoting policies to improve care and improved outcomes for patients with liver disease, during his Chairmanship of the group.
