Blackbaud security incident July 2020

At the British Liver Trust, we take your privacy very seriously.  Your support is hugely important to us and we value your trust, so we felt it important to inform you of the following incident.

On 16 July 2020, we were informed that Blackbaud, one of our third-party service providers, had discovered a ransomware attack in May 2020. The attack involved cybercriminals trying to take over Blackbaud’s systems.  While they intercepted this attack, a subset of data was copied.

We are confident the risk to our supporters is low.  No credit card or bank details were removed as these are encrypted. Furthermore, Blackbaud have assured us that there is no reason to believe any of the data was or will be misused.

We have reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and the Charities Commission.  We will continue to work with them, other relevant authorities and Blackbaud to investigate and monitor the incident.

Please do contact us on 01425 481320 or e-mail supportercare@britishlivertrust.org.uk if you have any questions.

Blackbaud has provided further details here.
