"The events gave people a chance to learn about their liver and made them feel valued"
Energy giant EDF has booked three Love Your Liver Screening and Scanning Events
Angela Young, Occupational Health and Wellbeing Manager at EDF, said: “When we booked the British Liver Trust’s Full Screening and Scanning Event the interest among our workers was immediate. Scanning appointments were booked out in within a couple of hours and everyone was asking if we could do it again.
“The event was very well organised. Jonathan and Emma from the Trust are very knowledgeable, and the ease with which they set everything up really surprised me. They were ready to start scanning within minutes of arrival and although the scans are quick, they provided a lot of information to our people at a level that they understood. 382 scans were carried out over two days, with 31 people being referred on for further support to their GP, Somerset Drug and Alcohol or to internal coaching.
“The events gave people a chance to learn about their liver health, raise awareness of the causes of liver disease and what they could do to love their liver back to health. It also made our workers feel valued because we brought it onto site. We’ve booked two further Screening and Scanning events and the interest from our workers has been very high each time.”
“Excellent service, knowledgeable and friendly staff – without this sort of event I would never have my liver checked.”
Ipsen: “It was a privilege to welcome the British Liver Trust to promote awareness of this really important health issue”
Biopharmaceutical company Ipsen sponsored a Screening and Scanning Event at its Milton Park base in Oxford
John Chaddock, VP Head of REED Operations and Site Head for Milton Park at Ipsen, said: “It was wonderful to have the fabulous team from the British Liver Trust and its mobile bus available for Milton Park-based personnel.
“Many of our team had their livers scanned and received valuable information on the importance of a healthy diet and exercise in maintaining a healthy liver. We’re extremely proud to have sponsored this campaign to come to Milton Park and wish the British Liver Trust team the best of luck with their roadshow events.”
Philip Campbell, Commercial Director at MEPC Milton Park, said: “Thanks to Ipsen’s sponsorship of the event, it was a privilege to welcome the British Liver Trust to Milton Park to promote awareness of this really important health issue, giving people the opportunity to get tested and find out more information.
“As an international science and technology community, we’re always keen to support initiatives that our Milton Park-based companies are passionate about, including the huge advances they make in life sciences and technology.”
Ipsen staff member, Veronica, attended the event. She said: “I was very impressed with the nurse who carried out my scan. My reading came back high and so I went to see my GP and immediately decided to adopt a healthier eating regime. Since then, I have never felt better or healthier. I would never have found the impetus to make these changes if it hadn’t been for the scanning event.
“A follow-up scan on the NHS showed my liver is now in a totally healthy state. I am very grateful to my employer for putting this event on.”
Network Rail: “Excellent service, knowledgeable and friendly staff”
Network Rail sponsored a Full Screening and Scanning Event after a manager attended a public Love Your Liver roadshow in Doncaster.
More than 80 staff members visited the unit, completed the Liver Health Screener to assess their own risk factors for liver disease and received a non-invasive liver scan. Many had previously been unaware of the preventable causes of liver disease beyond alcohol consumption and, following conversations with the Trust’s staff about diet and exercise, said they would make changes to their lifestyle.
Describing the event, Network Rail staff said:
“Excellent service, knowledgeable and friendly staff – without this sort of event I would never have my liver checked.”
“Great service and shows employer cares.”
“Great opportunity to get your staff’s health checked – happy healthy workforce = productive.”
“Fantastic opportunity to learn more about your health in general, as well as giving access to a scan not readily available. Great way to raise awareness.”
Screening and Scanning event delivered on company premises
A Canary Wharf-based company sponsored a Screening and Scanning Event inside their premises without the mobile unit, due to a lack of available outdoor space.
The specialist screening and scanning equipment was set up in separate meeting rooms, to ensure an appropriate level of privacy and confidentiality.
Attendees completed the Trust’s Online Health Screener which assesses the potential for liver damage and were encouraged to talk with the Trust’s specialist staff about diet, exercise and healthy living. They were then offered a non-invasive liver scan and received further information.
