What is a virtual challenge?
Taking on virtual challenge means committing to cover a specific distance over a period of time, in this case the 874 miles from Land's End to John O' Groats. But instead of having to actually travel, you can complete the challenge from anywhere, logging your distance as you go.
Your team will work together, adding up their efforts to reach the 874 mile goal.
Is there a fundraising goal?
We encourage you to raise £150 per team member to support our work.
We'll support you to set up a JustGiving page, and throughout your fundraising journey.
How is the distance tracked?
You can see your team's progress at any time via the End2End Virtual Challenges website, or on the challenge app.
Each participant gets an ID number (bib) and PIN, which you can use to log your miles - either manually or by syncing with Strava. For manual entry, there’s the option to upload evidence (like screenshots from activity trackers), but we’re happy to work on a trust basis too.
You can count loads of different activities towards the goal using the Activity Converter, which translates minutes of activity into equivalent miles.
How big should my team be?
Teams can be any size, up to 10, so you can share the distance and make sure you reach your goal. We recommend the following team sizes if you are primarily doing one activity, but of course you can mix and match any activities to reach your distance:
- Cycling: around 5 team members
- Running: up to 10 team members
- Walking: up to 10 team members
All team members’ efforts contribute to the team’s progress. For example, if 5 team members each walk 2 miles in a day, the team advances 10 miles.
You have 3 months to complete the 874 miles. The chart below will help you gauge how much you think you can do each day, and how big your team needs to be.
1 participant | 2 participants | 5 participants | 10 participants |
874 miles | 437 miles each | 175 miles each | 87.4 miles each |
9.5 miles per day | 4.75 miles each per day | 1.9 miles each per day | 0.95 miles each per day |
Can I take part on my own?
Yes, you can take part as a team of one. But this makes the event more challenging as you will have to be covering roughly 10 miles every day.
You'll still need to pick a team name to appear on the distance tracker.
What activities count towards the miles?
The challenge does not just have to be walking, running or cycling. Other activities supported include: Dancing, aerobics, badminton, ballet dancing, basketball, boxing, canoeing, elliptical training, fencing, football, gardening, golf, gymnastics, hiking, hockey, horse riding, housework, ice skating, jogging, jumping rope, kayaking, kickball, kickboxing, lacrosse, Pilates, punching bag, racquetball, rock climbing, rollerblading, rowing, rugby, sailing, skateboarding, skeeball, skiing, sledding, soccer, softball, spinning, squash, stair climbing, surfing, swimming, table tennis, Tae Bo, Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi, tennis, trampoline, volleyball, water aerobics, water polo, water skiing, weight lifting, wheeling (wheelchair users), wrestling, yard work, yoga.
