After 12 years of growing and maintaining an impressive head of dreadlocks, Ben shaved off his crowning glory for the British Liver Trust in memory of his beloved dad.
Modest Ben claimed his hair-raising fundraiser wasn’t much of a feat, but his supporters disagreed. Together they donated more than £2,000 during Alcohol Awareness Week in July to see Ben chop his locks off, a massive 1000% more than his modest £200 target.
Ben said: “Through cutting my hair off I wanted to promote the fantastic work of the British Liver Trust and everyone has been incredibly generous. I also wanted to encourage people to check in on their friends and family if they’re worried about alcohol misuse. 
“My dad passed away a little over three years ago from an alcohol-related liver condition. Unfortunately, recognising when drinking becomes a problem and having the courage to seek help is immensely difficult, but there is help out there for those who are worried about themselves or others.
“It may be daunting, but there is a life the other side of alcohol that can all start with something seemingly trivial such as a message to a friend. In the words of the late Queen Elizabeth II: “It’s worth remembering that it is often the small steps, not the giant leaps, that bring about the most lasting change.”
Ben is now hoping to find another charity to which he could donate his shorn locks.
